Dynamic Air Compression
Vasopneumatic Compression or Dynamic Air Compression therapy is utilized by most professional and collegiate athletes to help aid in their recover. We at RTP Chiropractic believe that everyone can benefit from the new technology.
Peristaltic pulse dynamic air compression or vasopneumatic compression is a way of accelerating and enhancing recovery by reducing muscle tenderness from pressure stimuli. Pulse compression increases blood flow to the extremities which help in the recovery of delayed onset of muscle soreness. Delayed onset of muscle soreness or DOMS happen typically 24-48 hours after a strenuous workout. Utilizing dynamic air compression has been shown to help in minimizing these DOMS. Dynamic Air Compression also enhances range-of-motion of the extremities. External pneumatic compression increases flexibility and reduces select skeletal muscles oxidative stress’s and proteolysis markers during recovery.
Here at RTP Chiropractic, we utilize Normatec therapy for dynamic air compression therapy. Normatec combines dynamic air compression with a patented Pulse massage pattern that utilizes three key techniques—pulsing, distal release, and gradients. At our office we utilize all three of Normatec’s attachments. The boots are great for lower extremity injuries , such as foot/ankle injuries, calf or hamstring strains. The shoulder attachments help patients with shoulder, elbow, or hand injuries. Tennis players, golfers, cricket and baseball athletes love this attachment. The hip attachment works really well with the recover for runners suffering with tight muscles and or inflammation around the pelvis.
